Join the CS Monitor: Job Opening

Come join The Christian Science Monitor’s international team as the first Saikowski Fellow in Boston. This one-year, entry-level, (modestly) paid position offers an excellent opportunity to join a dynamic and committed group of editors and to deepen your understanding of how to produce engaging, relevant, and analytical international journalism on a daily basis.

Your responsibilities will center on writing daily roundups on central news topics as well as reporting original stories. You will also play a role in supporting editors and writers around the world. You should be committed to news, have a passion for international affairs, and harbor a keen interest in bringing clarity and intelligence to the swirl of events beyond US borders. We want an original thinker who can spot trends and has an eye for the kinds of international stories that will connect with readers – as well as an ear for fresh ways to tell stories and build connections with readers.

You’ll need to be highly organized and attentive to detail, and able to work efficiently on deadline. A good sense of teamwork is a must, a sense of humor an asset, and an appreciation for starting work at 7:30 a.m. an enormous help. It’s a given that you’re active on social media and love promoting the CSM’s writers.

Application process: A cover letter and resume; ability to spend a day at the Monitor showing your skill at on-deadline news roundups or other short features, taking an editing test, and meeting with international editors. Unfortunately, we cannot provide transportation to our Boston office.

Start date: sometime in September.

Please be in touch by Aug. 6 with: Amelia Newcomb, Foreign Editor, newcomba@csmonitor.com; and Simon Montlake, Assistant Foreign Editor, montlakes@csmonitor.com.
