Europe still lags in building legislation to curb the use of conflict minerals. To its credit, the European Commissions is concerned with the weaknesses of current international conflict diamond legislation that must be improved and the need to build legislation that maintains the Kivus (where many of the minerals are mined) economy while stifling the funds supporting human rights abuses in the region.
